Our History
Sumner and Peggy Farr first purchased Johnny Brook Farm in 1951. The Farr’s expanded slowly, eventually milking nearly 500 cows at farms throughout Chittenden county. In 1967, the barn caught fire. The new and current barn was built in 1968, where they continued milking. In the late 90s the farm transitioned to Sumner and Peggy's son, Chuck, his wife Harriet, and their son Ashley who focused on diversifying the farm with cropping and milking. In 2012 Ashley and his wife Erin took over the milking operation under the name Farr Farms they milked 60 cows with a robotic milker until 2018. Ashley and Erin currently raise direct to consumer Beef, Pork & Eggs, and host agrotourism events the Sunflower Stroll & the Pumpkin Patch. Chuck and Ashley continue to grow and sell grain crops, along with small square bales of Hay and Straw.
Our Family
The Farm is currently operated by Ashley Farr, his wife Erin, and their four daughters. The teenagers, Aislynn and Alexis, are very active in the day-to-day operations, and in showing their pedigree cows. The babies, Annabelle and Adalie, provide some help with chores, and lots of comic relief.
